Well, here we are, seven days before Election Day, and the fate of the U.S. Senate is at stake. The pundits say the Senate races in several states are too close to call, with republicans out front, according to many polls.
Although I now live in Florida and I am acutely aware of the consequences if Crist does not win the governorship here. I have not talked a lot about this important race because my focus has been on national issues. But compared to the national crisis that will occur, the contest in Florida will be a drop in the bucket when compared to the national scene.
I am gravely concerned about the Democrats maintaining control of the Senate, simply because if they do not, we minorities will be in for a real tough time, from selecting Supreme Court nominees to whether our civil protections and rights will be taken away, our vote further minimized whether we gain higher wages, equal pay for equal work, whether our taxes will go up, and whether women will have the right to choose their level of health care, just to name a few. Will immigration reform happen? All these and more hinge on whether you go out and vote Democratic.
We cannot be apathetic about this…it is as important as electing Obama in 2012!!! The thing is my voice cannot be heard in Iowa or Kentucky or Arkansas, all I can do is hope that my message reaches enough ears in those states to move people to make an extra concerted effort to vote.
If you think sitting at home and do not get to the polls on Tuesday because the results will not affect you because you have a job and are living rather large; it is fool’s gold because all that you have can be taken from you by a portion of the Supreme Court that sees you as nothing more than a nuisance. And you know what some white folks will do to nuisances! If you do not have much and are trying to “get by”, life will not get better; in fact it will get worse, (think paul ryan budget) if you think it can’t get any worse.
So I’m pleading with you; call, text anybody you know in the those vital states and urge them to get out and vote Democratic.
I’m not proud of some of the races run by most Democrats…. but they are the only horses we have to ride…. so we have to go with them… which is way better than republicans…..
Vote and take a registered friend….. because if you do not, you are rotating the rest of us!!!
Enough said, I’m out!!!
